COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FLOAT, VALVE (WATER CLOSET)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description by all Federal Agencies.
1. SCOPE.
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (CID) covers copper and plastic valve floats intended for use in water closet tanks.
2. CLASSIFICATION
2.1 Classification. The valve float shall be of the following type, as specified (see 7.2).
Type I - Copper
Type II - Plastic
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Construction. Valve floats shall be fabricated of corrosion-resistant materials throughout. Floats shall be ellipsoidal in shape with a minimum diameter of 4 inches (101.6 mm) and a maximum diameter of 6-1/2 inches (165.1 mm). Copper floats shall be constructed with a double reinforced, crimped seam.
3.1.1 Buoyancy. Buoyancy of floats shall be sufficient to shut off a standard commercial inlet valve, which utilizes the float and an 8-inch (803.2 mm) float rod, and is connected to a 125 psi (862 kPa) water supply.
