Outlet connections: All outlet connections shall be threaded and shall conform to American Standard Taper Pipe Threads for general use (NPT).
Openings in top grate: Openings may be any geometric shape. Openings shall be sized to exclude debris and accommodate the anticipated traffic.
Material: Gray iron castings shall conform to ASTM A 48, class 25.
Holes: Four holes for securing the grate to the body shall be provided and shall be countersunk in the grate. Four holes for securing the body to a wood structure shall be provided and shall be countersunk in the body. Countersinking shall be to a depth so that the tops of the screw heads are flush with the top of the grate and the top of the body. Threads in the body shall be in accordance with FED-STD-H28/7.
Screws: Four wood screws (No. 10, 1.5 inches long) and four machine screws (Flathead, No. 8, .625 inches long) shall be provided with each drain. All screws shall be brass. Threads shall be in accordance with FED-STD-H28/7.
Performance characteristics: The drain shall withstand an external, concentrated load of 2,000 pounds without breaking, cracking, or deforming.
Castings: All castings shall be free of extraneous material such as sand, dirt, pits, sprues, scale, and flux. Fins resulting from line-of-parting of sand molds shall be ground or machined flush with adjacent material. Imperfections in castings may be corrected by welding provided no degradation in strength or performance will result.
Certification: The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Publication 94-480 to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging and marking: Military packaging shall be specified when shipments are to overseas Department of Defense (DOD) consignees. Commercial packaging may be specified for shipments to DOD consignees within the Continental United States and to non DOI) consignees worldwide. When a supplier’s normal packaging will satisfy the requirements for military packaging, it may be used.
