flats and the washer shall be of a suitable elastomeric material
designed to cushion the jamnut and form a water-tight joint between
the lavatory and drain tube.
3.2.3 Stopper and chain. . The stopper shall be of a one-piece
solid rubber or suitable elastomeric material molded with a rubber
post and provided with a copper alloy or stainless steel ring for
attaching the chain. The stopper shall be compatible with the size
of the lavatory drain specified (see 7.2) . The chain shall be of
copper alloy or stainless steel not less than 10 inches (254.0 mm)
in length, consisting of 1/8 inch (3.1 mm) or larger beads. The
chain shall be provided with chain couplings attached to each end.
One end shall be coupled to the stopper ring and the free end shall
be for attaching to a chain stay.
3.2.4 Finish. The lavatory drain, chain, and stopper ring shall
be finished in accordance with the manufacturer's commercial
practice for stainless steel, or nickel plated for copper alloy.
3.3 Workmanship.
Metal surfaces shall be free of sharp edges,
burrs, and dents that may affect function and serviceability.
3.4 Mea surement sys tem. The values stated in inch-pound units are
to be regarded as the standard. The metric values stated in
parentheses are for information purposes only.
3.5 Metric products.
Products manufactured to metric dimensions
will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using
inch-pound units, providing they fall within the tolerances
specified and all other requirements of this document are met. If
a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions
exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request
should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the
product is acceptable.
3.6 Commercial item. The use of the term "commercial item" in
this document does not imply that any item or items offered are not
required to conform with all requirements specified herein.
4.
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
4.1 Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged
to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in
accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition
Regulation (FAR) .
