COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FAUCET, SINGLE (DRUM & BARREL)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification WW-F-25, types I and II, class 2.
This description covers barrel faucets and are intended to be inserted into a barrel or drum for the dispensing of the liquid contents (excluding acid or strong alkaline solutions) as needed. Faucets shall be of the following types as specified:
Type I- Ground key lock lever
Type II- Self-closing lock lever
Salient characteristics:
Materials. Faucets shall be manufactured from corrosion-resistant materials.
General. Type I- type I faucets shall be of the ground key lock lever type with 3/4-inch IPT threads for attachment. Faucets shall have a metal to metal seat, and lock lever. Type II- type II faucets shall be of the self-closing type with 3/4-inch IPT threads for attachment. Faucets shall be designed to lock in the closed position.
Faucet body. The body of the faucet shall have a cast or milled section suitable to accet a wrench.
Seat. Faucets shall have a metal to metal or a nylon, polyethylene, or teflon metal seat.
Flame arrester. None.
Testing- Flow rate (all faucets). Insert a faucet into a 55 gallon barrel drum. Place the barrel or drum in a horizontal position and fill with water. Open the faucet fully and measured flow rate for conformance. All faucets shall be capable of a flow rate 3-1/2 gallons per minute.
Leakage. Faucet shall be subjected to 10 pounds air pressure and submerged in a degreasing solvent. No air bubbles shall be visible.
Faucets shall be provided with a warning label indicating “NOT TO BE USED WITH ACID OR STRONG ALKALINE SOLUTIONS”.
Conformance. Type II faucets shall conform to the requirements of Factory Mutual Research Approval Standard for Class 6031.
Workmanship. Faucets shall be free of burrs, sharp edges, cracks, flashing, and other defects which may impair durability, appearance or serviceability.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to used recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
