COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SHOWER HEAD, BALL JOINT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification WW-s-1913A.
This commercial item description covers shower heads with flow rates not exceeding 3 gallons per minute (gal/min).
Salient characteristics:
1. Shower heads shall be single mode or multimode, as specified, and shall be metallic or non-metallic, as specified.
2. Item shall consist of the ball joint assembly, shower head shell, faceplate, and all other parts necessary for proper installation and operation.
3. Metallic models shall be of brass and/or stainless steel; non-metallic models shall be of plastic or a combination of metal and plastic.
4. Construction shall be such that easy removal of mineral deposits, rust, scale, or other impurities is possible without the use of special tools.
5. Inter connections shall be internally threaded with 1/2 inch -14 NPT pipe threads in accordance with ANSI B2.1.
6. Maximum flow rates shall be not more than 2.75 gal/min. with 20-45 psi supply pressure, and not more than 3 gal/min. with 45-80 psi supply pressure.
7. No damage shall be caused to shower heads by use on a 125 psi supply system.
8. The water cone spread of single mode shower heads shall be an even conical spray, measuring 2-1/2 + 1 ft. in a 6-1/2 ft vertical drop. The spray distribution pattern of multimode units shall be variable, depending on the spray mode selected by the user, but the conical spray shall in no case be wider, than 3-1/2 ft in a 6-1/2 ft vertical drop.
9. Flow controls flow restrictors shall automatically regulate the flow rate and be integral with the shower head assembly.
10. Multimode types shall provide both pulsating and continuous flow modes. Spray shall be needle, soft or adjustable.
Workmanship. Shower heads shall have no sharp edges, slivers, burrs, deep scratches, tool marks, or other defects which might affect serviceability, durability, or appearance.
The issue of ANSI B2.1 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with the stated requirements.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawing, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered Materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The shower heads shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
Unitization. When shipments to Government depots are full car or truckload, the shipping containers shall be unitized to facilitate handling by means of forklift trucks in accordance with normal commercial practice. The unitized load shall not exceed 2,500 lb in weight, 63 inches in height, 56 inches in length, and 45 inches in width.
